Pokemon Inspired Pikachu Hat (Cont.)
Pikachu Ears – (Black) (Make 2)
- Mc, ch3, 7 dc into loop, join (8)
- ch3, increase in ea st around, join (16)
- ch3, 1 dc in ea st around, join (16)
- ch3, 1 dc in ea st around, join (16)
Join with yellow yarn
- – 17. ch2, 1 sc in ea st around, join (16) (That is a total of 13 rows)
FO leaving a long enough tail to stitch to hat.) Set aside.
Eyes – Black (Make 2)
Cheeks – Red (Make 2)
Eyes & cheeks are made, same method & same size, just different colors. Make 2 of each.
- Mc, ch3, 9 dc into loop, join (10)
- ch3, 1 dc in same st, increase in all st around, join (20)
This completes your eyes. (Leave longer tail to stitch eyes to beanie)
Continue to 3. for the Red Cheeks
- (Make sure you leave a longer tail on the red as well, that is what you will attach the cheeks with, not the black border.) Attach black yarn & sl st into ea stich around to outline cheek in red. FO
Eyes – White (Make 2)
- Mc, ch2, work 5 hdc into loop. FO leaving long enough tail to stitch to black section of eye.
Nose – Black
- Mc, ch2, 4 dc into loop. Do not join but pull loop tight & FO, leaving tail long enough to stitch to beanie. You will slightly form nose while stitching into crescent shape.
Mouth – Black
With a strand of yarn, approx 8” long & your needle, after you have finished stitching all parts to the beanie, you will form your mouth as shown in picture, or however you like =)
Stitching your pieces together:
Flatten your beanie & ears and choose the placement for Pikachu’s ears. You will sew the ears on flat (See picture below.) (See picture at top of pattern for ear placement.)
You can stuff your ears if you want, but that is not how the fabric hat was that I was trying to duplicate, personally, I like it better without. Your preference =)
All of the rest of the pieces are pretty self explanatory, just by looking at the picture at the top of this pattern. The ear flaps are just stitched on either side of the hat, hanging low enough to cover the ears.
Thanks so much for your interest in my Pikachu – like hat =) I had fun making it & I hope you will too!! Please join our super fun group over at YarnWars on Facebook. Hi wondering if it is UK or US terms please,? Elaine
I’m sorry for my delayed response Elaine. US terms for my projects =)
Are the inc stitches in each row for the beanie a sc or a hdc?
Hi M! The increases are dc.

I would love to create this pattern but it keeps telling me that there is a problem with the page. Can you please send me a pdf. Thank you
Hi Peg, I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with the website. Unfortunately, when there is a lot of traffic on the site, it can cause time outs and delays. It usually only lasts a few minutes, just a suggestion, all of the Yarn Wars patterns can also be found in pdf format in the group’s Files tab located at http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars. If you continue to experience issues, you can also access the patterns at that location. Thanks so much Peg! Have a wonderful evening!
Your instructions are perfectly clear for someone who already know how to crochet. You don’t need to change a thing, especially since it is free!
Lea Ann, than you for your sweet comment ♥ You made my day ♥

Am I missing some directions for eye..to be larger and for red cheecks? Very confusing to make it larger. It umbrellz-ed out. Was too wide for a larger head. I love the pictures…I have an older teen that needs it for “visits”. Kids. Love anything Pokemon.
Hi Lorraine! I’m sorry this isn’t working out well for you. Did you follow the sizing chart for the crown to make it the size needed? That is a basic hat pattern and if the measurements are correct it could possibly be a tension difference. I know I haven’t included tension for the project.. I tend to stitch a bit tighter. It may work better for you to drop a hook size. In the pattern, just before the eyes, I explain the cheeks and eyes are made the same, just different colors. So you just want to follow the cheek pattern for the eyes If you are still struggling… feel free to contact me via email, yarnwars@gmail.com , I’ll do my best to walk you through these areas more.
I am not able to find the pattern on your FB page and am confused as well. Can you pls send me the updated pattern?
Hi Nora! The Facebook group contains all of the pdf files that you can download and print for my patterns. You can reach the group by clicking on the following link: http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars
Have a great night! ????
Thank you for sharing your pattern! My son is over the moon excited to have one.
Awwww… so happy to hear Angela! Thanks so much for your kind feedback =)
I am a teacher and have a student that would like to make this hat. We are not allowed to access Facebook at school. Could you please email me the pdf of the pattern to zareiff@childrensguild.org
Thanks!
Absolutely! As soon as I get on my computer today, within the next couple of hours, I will send it off for you. Thanks! ~Colleen
About how long will this hat take to make?
It really depends on the crocheter. This is an older pattern of mine, I’m not sure how long it took me hour wise, but definitely something I did within a day if that helps =) The hat itself is very quick to work up. The pattern all around is a very simple. =)
My son is so excited for me to try to make this hat. Can you please send the pattern to my email?
Thank you. can’t wait to get started.
Hi Tracey! I will go ahead and send you the pattern but for all others seeing this and for future requests for a printable pdf of this pattern, it is available for download in our group Files tab at http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars This is going to be the quickest way for you to get the pdf copy, I unfortunately am not always in the site, I will be more often shortly, but until then, you can follow and work the pattern directly off of the YarnWars website, or again, by going to the Facebook group and downloading it.
Thanks so much! Have a wonderful day!
This pattern looks great – while the hat is lying down. Once it is actually on a head, the “ears” will just flop over, no? Seems you would need to suggest something for helping them stand up, such as thin cardboard you would slide into the finished piece? Not sure what else could work for this, so other ideas would be great. Just an observation…thanks.
Hello! Thanks for your feedback. The ears on this hat were not intended to stand up. The hat was modeled after a store bought hat my daughter got for an anime convention. Floppy ears. If you stuff the ears firmly, possibly also reducing the length, you could probably get them to stand, but again, the ears on this particular pattern were intended to be floppy. =)
Will you send me the pattern by email btw do you have Pinterest? If so follow me and I’m missAwesomeMeow so I will look forward to seeing more of your patterns
Sent =) Have a great day!
Thank you so much for this amazing pattern, I have been making them and selling them to raise money for cancer research, so much fun.
What a wonderful thing you are doing Christine! Thank you so much for your interest in this pattern ❤
Can you email the pattern to wigal33@hotmail.com also?
Done Lori! =)
when making the ears, the black tops start to look like mushrooms once i start with yellow, what would you recommend changing to correct that? I’m using red heart, and i’ve tried going down a hook side and im still getting a weird mushroom looking thing instead of an ear. Thank you!
I’ve got it figured out now, thanks anyway, and thank you for the pattern.
I’m so sorry just seeing this Sarah! I’m so glad you got it figured out. I am having some email issues in getting my alerts to messages. My apologies. Thanks so much for your interest in my pattern =)
Do you have a pattern for any other pokemon?
I’m sorry Nanette, I do not =(
Hi, when making the ears, do you lightly stuff them to many them stand up? Could I get the pattern emailed please? . Thank you
You absolutely can, I left mine floppy =) Sure, I’ll email it to you!
Good day could you please email me the pattern for the yellow Pokeman pikachu hat. I just can’t find the directions and my patience is running thin.. Thanks j thompson
Sure Jayne, but you are on the page of the pattern. Are you not seeing the pattern? There are multiple pages, you have to click on the next page at the bottom where the pattern on each page ends.
It reads to make 2 black eyes, but gives no directions on how to make them. Am I missing something?
Hi Laura, have you gone on to the next pages? There should be a page with the eye directions.
Hi could you please email me the PDF for the Pikachu hat pattern. I want to make one of my first grandbaby who is on the way. Thank you
Sherri, I probably am late for this, let me first let you know that all of the pdf patterns of mine/YarnWars are located on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars, and I know that I am quite late with my reply here, but I’m going to go ahead and mail it off to you now as well.
Have a wonderful evening!
I really like this hat. The pattern is easy to follow. I do have one question though. When you do the ear pieces, did you finsh making them and sew them on the hat or did you attach the yarn somewhere on the hat first and then do the ear pieces?
Thank you!
Another late reply from me… I’m so sorry… I just leave a longer tail at the start of the ears Cindy then use that to attach to the piece.
Please let me know if you have any other questions =) Thank you for your interest in my pattern!
You know what though Cindy, now that I think of it, if you look at my Grinch pattern, you will see where I start the arms right into the body… that would DEFinitely be a GREAT solution! Nice thought on that!!
I really liked how this cute hat turned out. Thank you for your easy to follow pattern.
Awesome Stacy! Thank you for your feedback! =)
I’m not on Facebook either: (
Hi Mary! My apologies for the late reply, I just emailed you the pdf for the Pikachu pattern as you requested =) Have a wonderful evening and thank you for your interest in my pattern! ~Colleen
I really am confused by this pattern. I’ve not been doing crochet for long but I’m yet to find a pattern as difficult as this one. Please could you clarify row one of the hat, as it says magic circle then chain 3 and then 11 stiches in loop, normally it would be 11 stitches in the magic circle so where does the chain 3 come in to it? So confused I’d really appreciate your help as I would love to give this pattern a go.
Hi Katherine! I am so sorry, I’m just seeing your comment & question… I’m also very sorry you are struggling with this. The magic loop is the same as the circle. The Pikachu hat was one of my earlier patterns, so I probably should go in and make a few edits in my wording. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions.
One very quick way is on our Facebook group page, you are welcome to private message me there as well: http://www.facebook.com/groups/yarnwars Thank you for your interest in my pattern! ~Colleen
The chain 3 counts as one dc and then you do 11 dc into the magic circle. You’ll end up with 12.
I love how helpful other people are around here to others as well as in the group… Such wonderful people have graced YarnWars =) Thank you! <3 Happy New Year!!!
